Novelty neckties can be funny and amuse those around you if worn at the right time. But are you sure you know when it’s appropriate to wear one?
Seeing the humor in a stressful situation and being able to make others feel the same is a great talent and of course, is not something to be ashamed about. But there are some individuals that never see the humor in anything.
Advertising your sense of humor with a novelty necktie at the wrong time could well make you the laughing stock of the office and backfire on you.
Making the right choice of necktie for the right occasion is not always that easy, and novelty necktie wearers sometimes don’t get it right.
With the wide choice of novelty neckties to be found, you can make choices as diverse as your favorite film star, hobby, pet, the alcohol brand you prefer, or anything else you may find amusing or interesting. Your novelty necktie with ‘real men eat burgers’ on it may be fine in a burger joint but will go down like a lead balloon in a smart vegetarian restaurant. You may well see the funny side of it, but your dining companions may just feel embarrassed.
If wearing a plain tie makes you feel like you blend in with the crowd too much for your tastes, then there are more subtle novelty neckties from which to choose. These can reflect your personality just as much.
Novelty neckties are not all loud or funny of course. Some of the themed ties for example are very attractive and may reflect your personality just as well.
If you stubbornly refuse to tone it down, try and choose a novelty necktie with a small and subtle repeat pattern on it. Some of the connoisseur range depict tiny wine glasses (no good at a recovering alcoholics meeting), and others have little coffee cups for example. Seen from a distance they look like patterned ties, but if you get close enough you can see what they are.
If that doesn’t grab you, then how about going for something with a small pattern on it depicting whatever it is that appeals to you. You can still let the world know what your favorite brand of beer is, but by choosing a novelty necktie with tiny images on it they will have to get pretty close to find out which brand you drink.
So, the bottom line is novelty neckties can be great fun, amusing and convey a message when the right one is worn at the right time. All you need to do is be sure you know when the right time is.
